“Kismet” Movie

During our summer programming in 2023, filmmaker Everett Ravens shadowed a Kismet student group for their full program week to document what Kismet is like through the eyes of our students. Everett beautifully captured these students and their time climbing and living at the Kismet house. We often find ourselves saying that it is hard to put the power of Kismet and the impact it has into words, but through watching this film, we think you will capture a glimpse of the importance Kismet journey.

Everett Ravens is a filmmaker based in New York city. Focusing on the minutiae of life, his films bring attention to the often overlooked or ignored, believing these are the stories filled with wisdom which can help to remind us all of our humanity. To learn more about Everett, you can read his Director’s statements below:

Directors Statement
As a teenager, I used to imagine what my future would look like. It wasn’t until I was older when I realized how much of that picture was painted by people and environment around me. Kismet follows 8 teens during a pivotal summer, as they begin to feel their own potential, learning technical climbing skills and gaining the ability to shape their future by recognizing what surrounds them.

Directors Relationship to Subject
Climbing has allowed me to push past inner barriers and pull myself into a version of my life I never knew existed. When approached by longtime friend and Kismet board member, Ara Morton, about making a film focusing on the youth climbing program, which offered their students everything I had come to love, I knew it had to be fate.

“Kismet” will be showing at the Jackson, NH Public Library on Thursday, November 21st at 7pm!

We’re planning more exciting things for this film in the coming months, so stay tuned:)
